Franco Barbi, known as “Il Bambino,” is a Prime Asset introduced in The Outlast Trials during the Season 1: Project Lupara update. His twisted backstory and unsettling presence have quickly made him one of the most talked-about antagonists in the game.
🧠 A Traumatic Past
Born in Louisiana to Mafia Don Salvatore Barbi, Franco’s early life was marred by violence and neglect. He committed his first murder at the age of 12, using his father’s shotgun—a weapon that backfired, causing severe facial injuries. This incident not only disfigured him but also marked the beginning of his descent into psychosexual violence.
Franco’s disturbing behavior escalated as he became a hitman for the crime syndicate, displaying a complete disregard for human life. His impotency led him to commit brutal murders of his partners, seeking pleasure through degradation and violence. A particularly harrowing incident involved an affair with his stepmother, Angelina Barbi, which, upon discovery by his father, resulted in a severe beating and exile from New Orleans.
🔫 From Cuba to the Sinyala Facility
After relocating to Cuba, Franco became involved with the CIA, participating in raids against revolutionary forces. However, his indiscriminate killings led to his expulsion. His actions eventually caught the attention of the Murkoff Corporation after he witnessed a Reagent commit an assassination, inspiring him to murder seven people. Murkoff dispatched Clyde Perry to investigate, who narrowly survived an encounter with Franco. Subsequently, Franco was captured and sent to the Sinyala Facility to become a Prime Asset in The Outlast Trials.
🧸 The Man-Child with a Shotgun
Franco’s appearance is as unsettling as his history. He dons a dirty oversized white pinstripe suit, a purple dress shirt, and a light blue bowtie, complemented by a brown ammunition bandolier. A pacifier dangles from the bandolier, symbolizing his infantilized persona. Armed with a sawed-off shotgun, he is the first enemy in The Outlast Trials capable of ranged attacks, making encounters with him uniquely challenging.
🎮 Gameplay Integration
Franco was introduced as part of the limited-time “Bambino” program during the Season 1: Project Lupara update. This event featured Trials and MK-Challenges where Reagents had to navigate the dangers posed by Franco’s unpredictable appearances. His home turf, The Docks, serves as a new map filled with drug manufacturing operations and perilous obstacles.
